Background
Persetia annually organizes a Summer School designed for master's-level students for all PERSETIA members. This activity is designed as an arena for getting to know and sharpening each other to produce constructive critical thinking among master's students in PERSETIA member schools. The discussion will be guided by lecturers who are involved in thematic issues that are annually submitted.
The theme of the year will be "Theology and Trauma". The theme can be categorized as an issue that is rarely discussed in theological discourse in Indonesia. Nonetheless, this topic is very relevant to theological and church life in Indonesia. Many traumatic events that have occurred in Indonesia, for example, natural disasters, socio-religious conflicts, and Covid-19, have left grief and trauma for society in general and specifically for people who have directly experienced these conditions. Shelly Rambo defines trauma as "suffering that remains, stays, and does not go away." For Rambo, trauma is a situation in which a person seems to be dealing with death, so talking about trauma is talking about life and death (Rambo 2010, 4).
It is an interesting fact to discuss academically regarding the theological response to dealing with trauma in society. A perspective and a framework for thinking about Trauma Theology are needed so that this year, Summer School will raise and discuss in-depth related constructive theology models, based on individual or community experiences and are cross-disciplinary in nature. Within one week, the Summer School participants will receive teaching from experts who work on issues of Theology and Trauma, followed by presentations and discussions in response to and identifying various factual issues in the context of the summer school participants. The discussion results will evolve the embryo for the emergence of constructive and sustainable studies regarding the issue of Theology and Trauma in the Indonesian context
